Toolbars
Toolbars can be given different visual styles with Settings - General Settings - General - User interface theme.
When a toolbar is not used, it can be closed with the 'x' in the upper left. Toolbars are made visible again with Show - Toolbars - <Toolbar name>.
Toolbars can be dragged to another place by clicking with the left mousebutton on their "handle" on the left (below the 'x').
The annotation toolbar controls all that the user can make directly visible on the board, like placing stones, symbols or territory boundaries (used to manually score a position).
All these annotations are compliant with standard SGF and compatible with many other SGF editors. SGF is the international standard for Go files.
Placing annotations on the board is done by "rubberbanding": The mouse cursor will show what kind of annotation will be used and an area is selected by pressing the left mouse button, and holding it, then moving the mouse until a boundig box ("marching ants") indicates the area. Annotation can be erased by repeating the process, or using the eraser. Different annotations can be placed "on top of eachother": White territory can be on top of stones with crosses on them, and parts can be highlighted etc. |
Eraser |
Removes all annotation. |
Navigate |
No annotation (turns off current annotation mode). This is the default state. |
Add variation/
Add stones alternately (black..white..black) etc. Also used to add variations (branches) or to quickly set up a pattern or Fuseki.
Pass |
Used to indicate a pass. Passes are shown in the tree like this: |
Alternate to adding white stones with the mouse wheel. |

The comment toolbar is mainly used to give a qualitative comment on the position in a "standard SGF" way, but it has a few other uses as well: Defining "hotspots" (places in the game one can jump to) and specifying who is to play. Another use of this toolbar is changing the move number.
Hotspot |
Defines a hotspot, like a "bookmark". Find - Next - Hotspot jumps to the next hotspot in a game. |

Black to move (moves next) |
Indicates that black is next to move. Used in setting up problems. Lets the pattern example system show black's best moves. |
White to move (moves next) |
Indicates that white is next to move. Used in setting up problems. Lets the pattern example system show white's best moves. |
The navigation toolbar moves through the moves of a game, and through game variations (or the branches in Kogo's Joseki Dictionary, for example).

Auto-play (and seconds per move) |
Moves through the game automatically. The spinner selects how many seconds per move. When there is an audio comment on a position, it will play completely. |
Memo-mode (guess next move) |
Puts the board into "blind" mode (impossible to see more who moves next) and counts how often is clicked on the next move played or not. The result is shown in the status bar: Remember to turn this off again, because it disables all features that would allow seeing what the next move could be, like forward scrolling, shoing the next move in the status bar and the move coordinates in the tree. |
The diagram toolbar is used to move through the game displayed in the diagram.

Rotate/Mirror/Reverse Colors/Influence Toolbar
This toolbar rotates, flips and mirrors the board, as well as reverses the stone colors.
There is no button to "reflect diagonally" because this can be achieved with a "flip" and a "mirror".
The button on the right shows the influence of white and black in a position.

This toolbar is used to tilt the board backwards and to change the sound volume.

This toolbar makes it easy to turn off/on automatic annotation on the Go board.
Example patterns on/off |
Switches on/off the automatic annotation of "statistical move urgency" patterns on the board. |
Fuseki on/off |
Switches on/off Fuseki annotation on the board. |
Pattern Search Toolbar
The button on this toolbar does a search for the currently defined pattern.
Pattern search enabled (because an area has been selected with Ctrl+Shift, containing at least one stone) |
Pattern search disabled (because no pattern search area has been defined yet with Ctrl+Shift) |
This toolbar handles audio recording for Go positions via a microphone. The recorded audio commentary will be embedded as standard SGF and played on the user's speaker or headphones when audio-commented positions are shown. When a recording is done, depending on its length, it takes a few seconds for the audio to be compressed.
Load Audio |
Load a WAV or MP3 file, to be able to use an external audio editor. |
Record |
When pressed (and recording), it blinks like this: |
Pause |
Pause recording. |
Stop |
Stop recording. (pressing the Record button also stops recording, when recording is in progress.) |
Play |
Play recorded audio. |
Delete |
Delete recorded audio. |
